Upside-Down Caramelized Apple Tarte Tatin (5-Ingredient Hack)
Apple Tart, Puff Pastry Hacks, Rosh Hashanah Desserts, Quick Sweets
Ingredients
-
2 Medium apples (Gala or Honeycrisp), thinly sliced
-
1 Sheet store-bought puff pastry (thawed)
-
3 tbsp Pure honey or silan (date syrup)
-
2 tbsp Butter (or margarine for Parve), melted or cubed
-
1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
-
Optional garnish: Powdered sugar and ground cinnamon
Method
-
01
Prep Caramel Base: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Drizzle small rectangular pools of honey (or silan) and top each with a bit of butter.
-
02
Layer Apples: Arrange thinly sliced apples in an overlapping layer directly over each honey-butter pool. Sprinkle with a little cinnamon if desired.
-
03
Cover with Pastry: Cut the puff pastry into rectangles slightly larger than the apple arrangements. Place a pastry rectangle over each apple cluster and press the edges down lightly around the apples.
-
04
Egg Wash & Bake: Brush the top of the pastry with beaten egg. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (400°F) for 18–20 minutes until puff pastry is golden-brown and puffed up.
-
05
Flip & Serve: Remove from the oven, let cool for 2 minutes, then carefully flip each tart upside-down so the caramelized apples are on top. Dust generously with powdered sugar and serve warm!
